Technology
How a coating
becomes a light source.
PLC coatings store ambient light energy and release it slowly once the light disappears. No power, no wiring, no batteries.
Charge
During the day — or under normal artificial lighting — the photoluminescent pigment absorbs and stores light energy. PLC Safety is formulated to charge on a minimum amount of light, for places that never see daylight.
Store
The energy is held in the pigment. Nothing is consumed, nothing wears out electrically, and there is no installation to inspect or maintain.
Release
When the light goes out the stored energy is released as visible light. Afterglow is measured according to DIN 67510 — up to 11,989 minutes for PLC Road and PLC Marking.
The build-up
Engineered
in layers.
Primer layer
A chemically matched base that bonds permanently to concrete, asphalt, stone and other common substrates — and secures whatever was already there.
Photoluminescent layer
Absorbs and stores ambient light energy, then releases it steadily once the lights go out. This is the layer that does the work.
Protective top layer
Seals the system against wear, dirt and traffic so the luminescent layer keeps performing for years.
Standards
Measured, not claimed.
PLC products are specified against recognised German industrial standards.
Afterglow (DIN 67510) — PLC Road and PLC Marking: 11,989 minutes · PLC Systemcoat: 8,655 minutes · PLC Safety: 2,397 minutes.
Skid resistance (DIN 51130) — PLC Road: R13 with luminescent spreading agent · PLC Marking: R9 standard.
